Waves in Build and Kill Zombies

There is no wave system.

The run screen shows distance, cash, speed, fuel and car health. There is no wave counter on it, and across every piece of footage of this game we could find, there is no wave counter in any of them. Advice about reaching “wave 10” here is about a game that does not exist.

Where the word comes from

The developer’s own description says “Crush waves of zombies!” That is a figure of speech about zombies arriving in a rush, the same way you would say waves of applause. Guide writers read it as a numbered mechanic and built advice on top of it.

What actually scales

Distance. The further a run goes the tougher the zombies get, and the map changes character as you travel through it. The stretches visible in footage, in order:

  1. 1Grass
  2. 2City
  3. 3Desert
  4. 4Snow
  5. 5Western
  6. 6Toxic
  7. 7Pirate

That order is read off recordings, not from a published list, so a stretch could exist between two of these that nobody has filmed.

How a run ends

Two ways: the fuel runs out, or the car is destroyed. Neither appears to cost you anything — cash and parts carry over, and no penalty shows on screen either side of a wipe. So a run is a distance attempt, not a life.

The furthest run we have seen recorded passed 11,000 distance, with the player noting there was no sign of an end to the map.

The boss is not part of this at all — it runs on a server clock, not on your progress. And distance is one of the two things that pays you cash.
